Endemic to the Eastern Himalaya from Sikkim to N. Myanmar, and in NE India (Garo-Khasi Hills). It should occur in Naga to Mizo Hills but currently there are no records from these ranges. See further details in Kunte (2010).
 


  This species is legally protected in India under Schedule I of the WildLife (Protection) Amendment Act, 2022.

Rare, endemic to the Eastern Himalaya and NE India, and protected in India under Schedule I of the WildLife (Protection) Act 2022. Inhabits large openings in mid-elevation broadleaf evergreen forests and along streams and riversides.
