Van Gasse (2013) listed the distribution in India as Nongpoh, Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, based on Cantlie (1962), and Sebong, SE Manipur (Tytler 1915). The female specimen from Buxa (bp769, bp770) extends the range by approx. 350 km north-westwards and is an addition to the butterfly fauna of Paschimbanga (West Bengal).
The subspecies boswelliana is legally protected in India under Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
Very rare in India. Tytler (1915) recorded 8 males in the months of April, June, November and December at Sebong, SE Manipur.
